Senior High Mission Trip

Every summer, the senior high youth of St. Luke's and their chaperones travel to Appalachia to spend a week doing home repair and refurbishment for low-income families.  For 10 years we've worked with Appalachia Service Project (ASP), to make homes "warmer, safer, and drier".  ASP works throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.  We spend all year raising money, practicing our building skills, and preparing for this life changing experience.

Appalachia is one of the poorest areas of the country, with a poverty rate more than double the national average.  Many families lack adequate kitchens or complete plumbing.  Yes, Appalachia's poorest families urgently need our help, but they help change our life, too.  Because when you change the lives of others, they have a way of changing you.  ASP is ultimately a relational ministry - throughout the week we build relationships with the family we are serving, the staff, other volunteers, and each other.  At the end of the week we hate to leave.

Our group will travel to Appalachia to participate in ASP on July 9, 2011 and return on July 17, 2011.  The location is Morgan County,Tennessee.
